Accordingly, diversity and inclusion is central to who we are and how we operate as One SJI. We work hard to foster an environment where differences are valued and inclusion is encouraged – and we're stronger because of it.

Employee Resource Groups

SJI’s Employee Resource Groups (ERG’s) are dedicated to helping drive employee engagement, fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace, developing future leaders, and broadening community partnerships.

Green Team
Green Team

The Green Team is an educational employee resource group at SJI dedicated to empowering employees to help support and create a more sustainable environment in our local communities. The Green Team provides leadership opportunities to employees interested in developing, implementing and assisting with educational and civil engagement events that support the organization’s continued focus on current environmental initiatives and stewardship goals.

AABE

American Association of Blacks in Energy is a national association of energy professionals dedicated to ensuring African Americans and other minorities have input into the development of energy policy regulations, research and development technologies, and environmental issues. At SJI, members of AABE’s South Jersey Chapter grant scholarships, provide mentorship and educational awareness to high school and college students, and participate in community service and networking events.

The mission of Emerging Leaders is to develop, equip, and retain emerging leaders through targeted initiatives and programs encouraging innovation, professional growth, and development.

The Veteran’s Engagement Team helps to improve our organization through engaging Veteran employees and using their experience as an asset to the company, addressing issues unique to the Veteran community, and support initiatives, both at SJI and in our service area, that help those who proudly served in the Armed Forces of the United States.

Power of Pride

The Mission of Power of Pride is to make both SJI and the communities we serve a great place to work and live by promoting an inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ individuals. By providing the support for all to be our authentic selves and contribute our full potential, we will leave the company and our community better than we found it.

 

Community Outreach and Events

Heart Walk
Heart Walk
The American Heart Association's (AHA) Heart Walk is an annual fundraising event to support heart disease and stroke research. In 2021, over 100 SJI employees rallied behind the AHA as they continued their annual Spring Heart Walk virtually. All of our ERGs and employees helped contribute to the 2024 Southern New Jersey Heart Walk, raising more than $48,000 for the American Heart Association.
VETS Food Drive
VETS Food Drive
The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program provides home comforts and critical services to military bases and hospitals and supports military families during deployments and emergencies. In 2020, our Veterans Engagement Team (VETS) collected thousands of pounds of food during their food drive with the Red Cross by setting up collection points throughout New Jersey.

Community starts at home, and we are committed to serving and making a difference in the lives of our customers, employees, and members of the communities we serve. Each year, our employees honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by participating in MLK Day of Service activities, helping those around us in ways that reflect our Core Values – safety, service, community, and inclusion. 
Local Food Bank Events
Local Food Bank Events
At SJI, we recognize that challenging times may continue for residents and businesses. South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas regularly participate in community food distribution events to help customers get the utility bill assistance they need.
